Power To The People!

Power To The People!

As the title of yesterday's blog may have suggested, I'm quite familiar with the work of Public Enemy. When I was in high school and in my early twenties I was a huge Public Enemy fan!

This surprises some people. I think I often present as the quiet and conservative type. And indeed I am rather quiet, I go to church, I'm reserved in how and when I present my thoughts and emotions. But that doesn't mean that I don't think about things, develop strong opinions, or have strong emotional responses to things. And so as a young man the radical social consciousness of Public Enemy appealed to me. It was music that presented thoughts and ideas, that was intended to get the listener to think. For me it captured my attention and moved me to think about and further explore things like the history of oppression, the frustrations of minorities and the disempowered, self empowerment, community empowerment, self awareness, social awareness and a lot of other things. For me it helped me in the development of critical thinking and so in that way Public Enemy has a special place in my life.
